Ram Mishra

I hail from the holy city of Varanasi. I did my Bachelors in Chemistry (Hons.) from Banaras Hindu Univerysity (BHU). Due to my interest in Biology, I chose
Biotechnology in my Masters. I then moved to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai for my PhD with Dr. Rohit Mittal. This is where I learnt about Sumo and am still fascinated with. After completing PhD in mid 2005, I moved to National Institutes of Health (NIH) to work as post doctoral fellow in a pioneering Sumo biology lab of Dr. Mary Dasso. However, I was introduced to altogether new field of nuclear pore proteins. I learnt all my cell biology inclinations for nuclear pore proteins and familiarized myself with excellent system of Xenopus egg extract here. After a brief introduction to developmental biology at another lab at NIH, I joined IISER Bhopal in November 2011.

Since then the journey is on and we are trying to understand the nuclear pore protein conundrum and learning the fantastic sumoylation pathway in greater details. I have been actively involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching since then and have been learning a lot in the process.
